Sweet Dreams are made of this

Embrace your struggles as stepping stones, and let resilience shape your journey. By changing your daily behaviors, you unlock the path to achieving your greatest goals.

In recent days, I have had a lot on my mind. Life has thrown its fair share of challenges my way, forcing me to downsize my studio and scrape by on a minimal income due to a layoff. Each job application I send out seems to disappear into the abyss, often rejected by AI-driven systems. Yes, even job applications are now ruled by AI, and it's downright depressing.

The Impact of AI on Job Hunting

The feeling of being expendable in a world increasingly dominated by robots is a tough pill to swallow. It seems that in this race towards automation and efficiency, the value of human experience and effort is diminishing. Each rejection, especially from a system that doesn't know the human behind the resume, chips away at my confidence and hope.

Finding Strength in Family

Despite these overwhelming challenges, there is one source of strength that keeps me moving forward: my precious daughter. Without her, I honestly don’t know what would keep me going. Her presence lifts my spirits and motivates me to keep fighting. I worry about her future and what would happen if I wasn't there to support her.

One evening, after we had spent time playing video games together, she surprised me by saying she was sleepy and wanted me to carry her to bed. This had never happened before; she was always difficult to put to sleep. My heart melted at that moment, realizing she wanted me to tuck her in. Moments like these remind me why I must keep pushing forward and pursuing the life I want for my family and myself.

The Struggles of Downsizing

Downsizing the studio was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. It wasn't just about reducing expenses; it was about letting go of dreams, potential projects, and talented people who contributed to the studio's vision. The uncertainty of living on a reduced income adds another layer of stress. With every job rejection, particularly from impersonal AI systems, the feeling of despondency grows.

An Unexpected Source of Inspiration

Recently, I watched a TED talk by Reggie Rivers on why we don’t achieve our goals. His message was clear: we tend to focus solely on our goals instead of our behaviors. This insight struck a chord with me. It gave me an epiphany about where my focus should be. Instead of fixating on the end goals, which are already set, I need to concentrate on changing my daily habits and behaviors.

Shifting Focus to Daily Behaviors

Rivers' talk made me realize that the greatest achievers of all time didn't just have grand goals; they had consistent daily habits that propelled them to success. It's not enough to have a vision; one must also cultivate the behaviors and routines that align with that vision. This shift in perspective has been transformative for me.

Resilience and Hope

As I reflect on my current situation, I recognize the need to fight harder than before. The world may seem bleak, but moments with my daughter and insights from thought leaders like Rivers fuel my resilience. I am committed to cultivating positive daily habits that will eventually lead me to my goals. This journey is not just about personal success; it's about creating a better future for my family and proving that human spirit and determination can triumph over any obstacle.

Here are some valuable tips on how to change your behaviors to achieve your goals.

Identify Your Goals Clearly

Before you can change your behaviors, you need to have a clear understanding of what your goals are. Write them down, visualize them, and break them into smaller, manageable steps. This will give you a roadmap to follow and make your goals seem less daunting.

Understand the Behaviors Needed

Once your goals are clear, identify the specific behaviors that will help you achieve them. These are the daily actions and habits that will move you closer to your objectives.

Create a Routine

Consistency is key when it comes to changing behaviors. Establish a daily routine that incorporates the behaviors you've identified. This routine will help you stay focused and disciplined.

Set Small, Achievable Milestones

Breaking down your larger goals into smaller milestones makes them more achievable and gives you a sense of progress. Celebrate each milestone to stay motivated.

Track Your Progress

Keep a journal or use an app to track your progress. Documenting your journey helps you stay accountable and allows you to see how far you've come.

Surround Yourself with Support

Having a support system can make a huge difference. Surround yourself with people who encourage and motivate you. Join communities or groups related to your goals for added support and accountability.

Be Patient and Persistent

Changing behaviors and achieving goals takes time. Be patient with yourself and stay persistent, even when you face setbacks. Remember that progress is often slow but steady.

Reflect and Adjust

Regularly reflect on your progress and be open to adjusting your behaviors if needed. What works for one person might not work for another, so find what suits you best.

Celebrate Your Wins

Finally, celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Recognizing your successes keeps you motivated and reinforces the positive behaviors you've adopted.

In these trying times, it's essential to remember that setbacks are not the end. They are merely stepping stones on the path to growth and success. By focusing on daily behaviors and maintaining a positive outlook, we can overcome adversity and achieve our dreams.
